Microsoft made it that way for a reason. If you turn it off, then things are much more likely to go wrong! Everyone knows Microsoft are the laughing stock when it comes to security.

Wireless security password settings for the Wii?

I right now have my router set to WPA/TKIP, which offers good security and allows the Wii to connect to the internet/network/online. However, I want the best security so I switched it WPA2/AES. Unfortunately, I could not connect online with the Wii console, when using the WPA2/AES or WPA2/TKIP password security settings. On the other hand, my laptop was able to connect my network with WPA2/AES security. But the Wii can't. I have tried googling for answers but only found a bunch of forum posts, which provided tips that did not work.

Any suggestions/tips to get my Wii console to connect to my wireless network with WPA2/AES security?

Don't be afraid to get geeky and use computer jargon. I consider myself an intermediate-advanced user. If you are really good at using search engines, please post sources to.

Wireless security password settings for the Wii?virus

I don't know that you'll get overly complicated responses on here. :-)

Nintendo's website claims that the Wii is compatible with WPA2/AES security, so in theory, it should work. I'm assuming from your question that it worked fine with the same router in the same place using WPA, but once you switched to WPA2, it no longer works.

I would suggest contacting Nintendo on the issue. I'm guessing they've dealt with the issue and probably have some explanations.

Slow computer?

i have a computer which is about a year old. i also have norton internet security on it. the other day, norton automatically updated my computer. since then the computer has been so slow when you turn it on. it takes over an hour for it to load!!!! and the comp crashes while i am using it! I thought maybe it is the norton security thing which has caused the comp to do this. so i went to control panel to remove the programme but because theres something wrong with the computer, the add/remove programme application won't work!!!! what do i do? do not want to buy another computer or spend money on a guy to come to my house and just waste my money. i also have adware which my friends recommended i buy but that was hopeless cos it made no difference! please help! is stopping me from doing my uni work and using the internet!

If you use Norton (Symantec) You need to get rid of that also. It isn't nothing but a resource hog and causes problems that takes for ever to try and troubleshoot. Also, Norton has a removal tool in order for anyone to remove it from their system (I say this is bad practice for ANYONE - the removal should have been included).

How to monitor my security cameras on a LCD tv?

I can remotly view my security system for my business from home which obviously requires a computer. I am trying to set it up so I can just have a LCD tv setup to continuasly view the cameras. I guess I will have to get a small computer and add it to my network with only the security program running but isnt there a cheaper and easier way to do this.

How to monitor my security cameras on a LCD tv?antivirus download

You'll need 2 things:

1) A computer to act as the video "server". If you can get software to put your cameras on a web page, you can run a web server (Apache is free, and it's what most commercial web sites use), and connect to it from home via the internet, or you can remotely connect to that computer (via the internet) from home and effectively watch the screen on the office computer.

2) A multiplexer or switch so that you can stream more than 1 camera at a time. A multiplexer gives you 4 or 6 (or 8 or ...) cameras on one screen, a switch switches between cameras at a fixed interval, so you see them one at a time. It's a personal preference.

Computer problem: When turning on my computer, i see program files i never even installed!?

you problem is that you don't have anti-spyware installed. anti-virus only helps to fight virus, but they can't do anything about spyware, trojans, adware and similar things that spread widely. from what you've told, you got a trojan that tries to foist you some anti-spyware (that are of course malicious). a lot of malicious programs spread this way, they simply install themselves and then ask to pay for them. it's sad but this trick works, even if people don't buy the program they keep them, and you are right cos you want to delete them. i won't tell you that this or that remover is the best, here's a list of most reputable anti-spyware so you can choose what you like http://www.2-spyware.com/anti-spyware

Computer careers: should i study computer information systems, graphic design, or 3d animation?

I want a secure job in computers if there are any. most importantly to me are security and a fair wage and something that is a little creative. my college offers computer info systems, graphic arts (1 year there 1 year at another school) focuses on printing not design unfortunately (although i can get a ba in interdisciplinary studies where i can pick classes around what i want to go into) or yet another school offers 3d animation. i have also considered health information technology at a different school all together. i have like 38 usable credits in a music major i dropped out of. i just dont want a useless degree. i could see myself doing design web graphics ( i have a vivid imagination) but i dont want an 80 hour a week job and i dont want to free lance i need benefits and steady income please any suggestions for career advice i desperately want to get the ball rolling. im pretty decent with computers and a fast typist. all suggestions welcome thank you very much

Computer careers: should i study computer information systems, graphic design, or 3d animation?adware remover

It would be worth investigating the printing technologies (graphic arts) study because most of the high-end printing is very computer driven, and there is also the potential of getting involved in the production aspect of preparing design work for print. There are lots of job possibilities in this field. Go to www.gain.net which is the Graphic Arts Information Network. They have a section for students which contains career information.

Printers and production people work very closely with the designers. They have to be precise and detail-oriented but it is not considered the creative side of the industry. That would be the graphic designers. However, designers often work long hours (although this varies dramatically from one position and company to the next.) The production people are generally on a set schedule.

If you want to consider the creative side, go to www.aiga.org for more information. I'd recommend a good graphic design program rather than a focus on strictly web design because your education will be broader and will prepare you for a wide range of design careers.

Good luck!

What does it mean when I keep getting pop ads all the time even though my internet security is on?

Everything on my internet sucurity program is set to where I shouldn't get pop ups. I've never had them before either. They started after I accepted a friend invitation on myspace. Is it possible that my computer is infected with a virus even though I

It is possible you have a virus. However I suspect adaware/spyware. Get the 2 programs below.

Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.

Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaw...

After you are sure it is clean get a program called spyware blaster.

Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html

SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.

It's main features include:

- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.

- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.

- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.

If you bought your computer from one of those rip-off....I mean fine companies like HP, Compaq, or Hell.....I mean Dell, take it back where you got it if it is under warranty and have them fix it because I think you have a host of problems.

Doodad

The biggest problem you have is Vista.
Maybe its IE/Internet Explorer. Have you tried Mozilla Firefox?
Norton wont make your computer do that but with out up to date antivirus it might be a virus... but then it could be the fact your using vista.
Funny you should say that. This happened a lot to me in school, but that was before they got IE 7. You could try using FireFox, it could be a browser compatibility issue. Your best option is to call Microsoft. They will probably know what's going on. Since Windows Vista is a new OS, there will be some bugs, so just call and they should help you. Or you can call your computer manufacturer. Since you have Vista, you will still have a warranty. Anyway, this isn't that big of a problem, but call your manufactuer or microsoft and they will get your back up and running.

Good Luck!

To find ActiveX settings: In Internet Explorer, click Tools and then click Internet Options. Select the Security tab. Be sure the Internet zone is selected. Click the Custom Level button. In the window, scroll down to 'ActiveX controls and plug-ins.' There are five settings here. Your ActiveX controls should be set to:

1.'Download signed ActiveX controls'鈥攕et to 'Prompt.' Signed ActiveX controls from a known organization and are considered safe. But you still want to be asked/prompted about this since there may be some sites (using signed ActiveX controls) that you may not want download into your computer. This prompt will give you that option.

2.'Download unsigned ActiveX controls'鈥攕et to 'Disable.' This will prevent the downloading of unsigned controls.

3.'Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe'鈥攕et to 'Disable.'

4.'Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins'鈥攕et to 'Enable.' This will prevent you from being repeatedly prompted once you have accepted them.

To change security settings in ZoneAlarm, right click on the taskbar icon and choose "Restore Zone Alarm Control Center".

Next click on the Firewall tab, and adjust the security to the desired level. If you are still unable to view the web cam after changing the internet settings to medium, try disabling the firewall completely for test purposes.

If you are able to connect with the firewall off, but not with security settings set to medium, I would recommend you uninstall the newer version, ZoneAlarm Free 7.0.302.0.

I had to remove this version from a couple of different XP computers I administrate so far, due to a sizable memory leak in the program.

In my opinion, the newest version was not quite ready for release, and is buggy,

You can reinstall the older more stable version here;

Remember to disable automatic updates, or tell the program to remind you again in 60 days. I am sure Zone Labs will have worked out the kinks by then.

The Windows help section contains a lot of useful material. You may also have a tutorial.

Next - Try your local public library. I live in a small town, but our library has a large selection of computer books, manuals and tutorial programs on CD ROM available for FREE. As a plus, I can drive to the library, get a CD tutorial and install it faster that I could download the same thing with my pokey dial-up Internet connection.

Looking for computer recommendations for home video surveillance.?

I'm looking for a way to get webcams or the like and use them for home security purposes.

I figure that I could get a computer that has several usb ports or equivalent and it would be dedicated just for that purpose. I would use a broadband connection to stream images off-site (not all the time), have a UPS (10-15 minute duration). I'm thinking of 4-6 cameras being managed by 1 software package.

I'd like the cameras mid-range - a ccd or low light camera probably isn't needed, unless that would be the preferred tool for the job.

So basically, I'm looking for the computer, software, cameras and UPS. I don't need comments on home networking or bandwidth. Computer size isn't an issue, it will be tucked out of the way and not moved (racked, probably). Operating system isn't all that important (unix would be preferred but not necessary) The cameras can be either fixed or movable - I haven't really figured out how I want to lay them out yet.

If your pc is infected make sure that you have a good anti virus and anti spy ware program installed on your computer. check out http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-sAFtLsc8e... for more details.
If you have an anti-virus, I suggest you make sure it has the latest virus definitions and run a scan with it. If you don鈥檛 have one, many people here swear by AVG (it鈥檚 free).

I suggest you also download Ad-Aware 2007 and Spybot S%26D (they鈥檙e free), install them, update them and run them. If any of the above (or any anti-malware, for that matter) doesn鈥檛 seem to be able to get rid of everything it reports finding, try running it again in Safe Mode. Safe Mode often prevents malware from protecting itself.

you can all u need is microsofts web service ills or the apache(www.apache.org), follow the instructions, the apachesetup is a little more complicated thant the microsoft one, just make sure u have broadband and can handle being a web server
How it is done, sort of depends on what kind of server do you want your computer to be.

If you just want to host a static website or a medium sized php driven website which uses mySQL for database manipulation, you could simply install WAMPserver (which is apache+phpy+mysql preconfigured in one nice package).

If you want to run a full sized website with php/mySQL on it, you'll have to install Linux (you could install Windows 2003 Server, but since you want to save money, i don't think thats a good option as it is not cheap). There are different linux distributions to choose from, and lots of help is available online on how to install and manage the Linux OS. Once that is done, you computer can be configured to run as a professional server which handles HTTP/FTP/POP3/SMTP or any other protocols which your site might utilize.

But when i log on again i'm getting alsorts of problems such as: very very slow to get any program up and then when it does there is things popping up telling me to do this or that. I don't know what to do any more. My system is only a couple of months old and it worked perfectly before i got on the internet about three weeks ago. What am i doing wrong. I have not downloaded anything exept for what It tells me to. I downloaded Google earth but uninstalled it when it would not run. I downloaded Norton antivirus and Sz and 20071111-007v5i32 Symatec because it insisted..Please can anyone make any sense out of this for me. would be very well appreciated. Thanks. Ps sos about the saga.

Hello It's me again. More problems with my computer.?aurora

First of all you want to remove all that new software you have downloaded. All of it is loading up when you first boot up windows and slowing your computer right down.

To be safe on the net you need antivirus software and firewall software.

You can get free antivirus software (AVG - google it) and free firewall software (Zonealarm - google it).

Why does my computer run slow when The Shield Antivirus 2006 is running?

I decided to let go of my Norton Internet Security package because it took so long for my computer to start up and because it was generally slow with this memory hog running. I chose The Shield Antivirus 2006 (PCSecurityShield) specifically because it comes out on top of reviewers choice and because their customers love that it's so light on memory. It's installed in two parts: the firewall and the antivirus. With just the firewall running my computer is lightning fast even on the internet. But, once the antivirus is loaded it is as slow as a snail. Their tech support is working on a solution but I'm not hopeful they will be helpful. I don't want want to run my computer with only the firewall. Has anyone else experienced this? I'll tell you this: (1) msconfig startup is running a minimum number of files, (2) a scan turned up no viruses and no spyware, and (3) I'd rather resolve the issue with the current software than blindly get another. Please provide recommendations!

Dont know if this is going to help you,but it is a well known fact that once you uninstall Norton,it leaves a lot of junk behind.I ve experienced this myself and it took me a long time to clear it all.But once cleared from the registry,my laptop was faster. You ought to try doing the same, try this websitehttp://safety.live.com/site/en-US

AOL Safety and Security System interfereing with McAfee?

I used to have McAfee which came with my computer when I got it. But after it expired I removed it (it was pretty useless) and installed AOL Safety and Security Center since I wanted something there to scan my computer for viruses. Everything was fine, but now everytime AOL goes to scan, a message pops up from my computer saying that "McAfee ActiveShield found a suspect file on your computer"? But I thought I uninstalled McAfee! Also my status is "fair" with the AOL S%26S Center and not "excellent" because apparently it wants me to uninstall my Microsoft Firewall so that AOL can install its own. Should I do that? Which works better? Sorry for this being so long, but help!

well if you want to be safe. i wouldn't trust AOL. I'd unistall both, making sure they are fully unistalled. that download avast for viruses, spybot S%26D for spyware, Adaware for adware, and the other vast majority of great free programs but do research, it really does help.

You can only run one antivirus program at a time on a computer. I will not go into detail about my disdain for AOL. I will say that if you have AOL software on your computer it will be nearly impossible to get rid of it without special uninstalling software. So if you choose to slow down your computer and fill it with (ahem $%%26($ aol) software, then remove McAfee.

Is any additional security needed....?

This is my first computer,it initially came with a 90 day Norton 2007 security that I dumped because it slowed me down.I now have the paid version AVG Internet Security 7.5.It works just fine,I like to manually scan about once every day, catching 100 or 150 cookie threats that are low priority.I also have Ad-Aware free version anti spyware. My last program is a paid version of System Mechanics, which I use to clean up files and defrag ect.Now I understand that you can have several anti-spyware programs that won't interfere with eachother. Is Spy bot %26 window washer any good? Also,is a router a good idea for protection?

Here are program I use that will give you 100% protection. Ofcourse you must also have all your critical updates installed from Microsoft.

I use the free zone alarm firewall for many years. Excellent with free updates and all new versions free. Protects you from rouge incoming packets and keeping your private data from leaving your pc.

http://www.zonealarm.com Download their free home for personal use.

Antivirus program I use. You only pay a one time fee of $29.99. and you get all updates and all new versions for life.

Read the webpage and if you like what you read this is the antivirus of choce I have used for over ten years and never one virus.

By culture the Chinese are very secret just about everything and that includes their software.

This antivirus program out of Beijing, China that is also used by the Government of China.

This antivirus program does not have the Govt. permission to be rated with all other known antivirus programs.

What I can assure you is that you pay only a one time fee for life that will include all auto updates, and all new versions for life. The Chinese don't believe in having to pay an annual fee for updates or new versions.

Is Norton Internet Security really that bad?

I read a lot of answers that say that Norton is crap, is it really so? Because I just got norton Internet Security 2008 and seems to work fine on my computer.

Is Norton Internet Security really that bad?cafe racer

Be advised that Norton is the worst anti-virus product ever made. Norton is more like a virus and a huge resource hog. It is notoriously bloated and takes forever to perform full systems scans. The software will do more harm to your PC than good and when you try to remove it, it leaves behind over 375 traces in your registry files/folders and subsystem. This software is so awful you have to download a removal tool to get the majority of the entires out of your machine. You are much better off with a free anti-virus product.

Is Norton Internet Security really that bad?free anti virus

Yes it is crap sorry to say as you will see in time.
It's horrible...I used to have it...and when we got our computer cleaned there were two thousand viruses/adware/spyware on it...literally.
Do bears deposit land mines in the woods? Back when "Norton" meant Peter Norton himself, Norton was good stuff. Now that "Norton" means "Symantec", it's become the most intrusive memory hog on modern systems. There are spyware programs and viruses that I'd rather have than Norton. What's even worse about Norton is that you have to actually PAY to get it, which is a travesty, considering the fact that there are free solutions that work better, with less overhead levied against processing and RAM, available.

You do not need a security system for the MAC as it is inherently far more safe than Windows.

I have been running a MAC for the last 15 months with only the built in firewall on and have had no problems. Remember there are NO viruses for MAC, yep that's right NO viruses.

Ignore any of the idiots that post that MACs are somehow rubbish, they are just jealous that you and I have a computer that works properly.

You are still thinking like a Windows user who has to protect him/her self all the time because their OS is so vunerable to attack, you have a MAC and it is nice and secure. Relax and enjoy the beauty of a decent OS

YOU DO NOT NEED NORTON OR ANY OTHER SECURITY SYSTEM !!

Don't worry about security, no hacker would bother with MAC they're not worth it. Windows is hegemonic so hackers have more targets attacking them.
I have been using a Mac for a few years now, when I bought it, I also got Norton Anti Virus, and a year later, No virus's on my Mac. I uninstalled Norton and ran it for 3 years and I reinstall Norton,do an update, scan the Mac ,and uninstall Norton as it slow's my Mac down, you are buying a cracker of a machine

antivirus and spyware programs, if you are looking for a free antivirus and spyware, well I have been using these two for the last month or so, on a trial by myself, and so far, they are as good as any, that I have tried, if not better, since installing them they have picked up any and all known viruses and spyware.

The spyware impressed me, when I installed a torrent tool bar, that was full of spyware it not only removed the spyware it removed the tool bar as well, which impressed me.

The two programs are AVAST home and SPYWARE TERMINATOR; I would recommend these two programs to protect your systems.

There are methods around it but if your parents are clever they will have a key logging programme that is monitoring everything you are typing.

Sorry but you better get used to asking your parents.

Window XP goes haywire after live updates fixes security holes???

Can anyone tell me why this happens? My Dell laptop computer caught some viruses I couldn't kill then I decided to re-install the whole OS with the recovery disc. Because it replaces the computer into Windows XP (SP1) and when I started using the online live update lots of security fixes, up untill it askes to download SP2, the computer won't work properly anymore! I can't shut down properly (resort to force shut down), the first 2-3 minutes when I turn on the computer everything looks normal but then it freezes, I can move the mouse curser, and turn on %26 off caplocks lights, but can't get XP to shut down or open any other programs. I want to know if I can still upate the security fixes this way (I have re-install Windows three times already to find out why), hope someone is knowledgeable to help me, please!!!

Window XP goes haywire after live updates fixes security holes???computer

Well if you had viruses and generally if they have infected pretty badly, re-installing windows won't help unless you format your disk and do a clean install.

If you have lot of data, take a bakup of the data (on another disk or CD) and they format.

You could try and fix the problem without formatting... maybe, give a try is:

First boot the system in "safe mode" and then run your antivirus program and also if you have a ad and pop-up cleaning software like Ad-aware, run that also!

Upgrading computer hardware and windows vista - will it work?

I currently have windows vista home premium installed. I would like to upgrade my motherboard and processor but worry it may give me problems when vista detects hardware changes and could possibly not work (in terms of security, thinking its been installed on a new second computer). Will i have to reinstall vista and reformat my hard drive?? thank you for your time

Upgrading computer hardware and windows vista - will it work?download

If you install a new motherboard you will have to reformat. A new motherboard will require new chipset drivers and you wont be able to boot into your existing installation.

Upgrading computer hardware and windows vista - will it work?hijackthis

It is never recomended to put your old hard drive into a new machine without first re-formatting it. (unless it is an identical motherboard)

You will need to re-activate vista as you have changed processors (the vista licence is linked directly to the processor) to do this you will have to ring microsoft and they will talk you through the process, this should take only about 10 minutes.
When the activate window comes up, I would click on Call Microsoft, and call them with the phone number given. Tell them that your motherboard burned up, because the power supply fried, so you replaced it. They'll ask you to read the numbers on the screen, then say "Just a minute please", and come back with a new product key, that you'll punch in the activation window, viola!
I don't know about Vista, but with XP you had to reinstall. But a word of warning: With XP you could reinstall any amount you want, but with Vista you get your first install and 1 reinstall and that is it. After which you have to buy a new copy if you want to install it again.

Have you tried disabling CA security suite from running at startup using msconfig?

If not, lets try that go to Start -%26gt; Run. Type msconfig

and press OK.

Go into the Startup tab and look for anything that you think has to do with the Internet Security Suite then uncheck it

then go to the services tab, at the bottom, check the hide all MS services. look for anything that you think has to do with the Internet Security Suite then uncheck it

This should disable the security etc. from starting as soon as you start your computer, which means it cannot be denied.

Restart the computer and try to uninstall it

If that doesnt work try restarting your computer in Safe Mode

My suggestion is to start Windows in Safe Mode, copy all your important files to an external hard drive or DVD then reformat your computer. In doing this you will get rid of everything on your computer (including the viruses), then re-install Windows and your needed software. most likely feel your computer going a whole lot faster.

Remember to use a good Anti-Virus and Firewall. Only vist website that you know are safe. And dont install any software that you dont need or that you are unsure if it is safe or not.

Read: From gaming, to web browsing, my computer unexpededly restarts at least once per day, sometimes 2 or 3 times...

It has been happening for about a month or 2.

At first I thought it was;

Graphics Card - I tried a different AGP card and it still happened. I bought a brand new top end PCI-E card and it still happens. It isn't the graphics card.

Power Supply - I bought a brand new power supply, which has mroe than enough power for my computer. It still happens. It is not the PSU.

Virus/Spyware - My computer is clean as a whistle, I'm no noob with security. I have no virus or spyware.

I also reformatted my computer today, and have hardly been on the internet. Just now the god damn computer unexpectedly restarted!?

Other hardware I use: Wireless network adapter, DVD Drive, CD Drive, SATA Harddrive, CPU.

I now have NO idea what could be causing it... it definatly isn't a software problem, or gfx, psu problem or wireless network card problem...

I need this sorted.

Computer unexpectdly restarting...?firewall

It could be a SATA problem. I know this sounds weird but I have seen it before. Restart your computer and go into the BIOS. Look for a setting that says something like SATA module or something with SATA and change the setting to disabled.

If that still doesn't solve the problem try running the check disk from the command prompt. This works best from the Windows recovey console which can be reached by inserting the OS disk and booting from the disk. Once the choices come up like Install Windows, Run Recovery Console, Exit Setup, chode Run Recovery Console by pressing "R". Once it brings up the console, wait until the "C:%26gt;" shows up. Then type "chkdsk C: /R" and press enter. This will check the disk for bad sectors and also recover bad areas.

To Configure the Router with Internet Access

Connect to one of the wireless router/access point's LAN Ethernet ports, turn off its DHCP server, and give the wireless router a static IP on your LAN:

1. Connect a PC directly to a LAN port on the wireless router with an Ethernet cable.

2. Power on the wireless router/access point.

3. Reboot the PC.

4. Log in to the wireless router though a browser. (Usually 192.168.1.1, with User Name = admin and Password = password, unless you changed them from the defaults).

5. Go to the LAN IP menu and disable the wireless access point鈥檚 DHCP server by unchecking Use router as DHCP server.

6. Select LAN IP, and change the IP to 192.168.1.99.

7. Click Apply to save the settings. You will lose the connection to the wireless router/access point , since its IP changed.

8. Log in to the wireless router/access point with the URL: http://192.168.1.99

Don't panic you likely have some spyware on your computer which is generating the increase of pop-ups. Most of the pop-ups that occur are just spam but some of them can be viruses and they try to trick you into clicking on them and downloading viruse. You should have a good anti-spyware program on your computer as well as a good virus scan program. If you don't have one you can download for free:

spyware - adaware or ewido is good

virus software - avg is good

If you have a good spyware removal program and good anti virus software, update both of them, and scan your computer and get rid of whatever is there.

My friends a computer repair person and he says Norton is the best one to have.
If going on the internet it is very important to be protected, the average computer that goes on the internet without security will have at least 500 attacks on the operating system and critical folders. For which to buy id recommend Norton internet security 2006 which will cost around 拢25 for a year which includes regular downloads for updating your protection, it has parental controls for protecting little tykes from explicit sites as well as having spyware protection, spyware is a threat when downloading anything from the net.
yes a good anti virus and a firewall should be used.

Log into your router and add WPA. WPA and WPA2 is stronger security than WEP. You don't need to physically move your computer by the router.

Most home routers have an IP address near the beginning of your particular subnet such as 192.168.1.1 or something very similiar (look at your router's instruction manual or locate the IP address by searching the router model on the manufacturer's website). Different routers have different default username/password combinations, which you will definitely need to look up documentation for. Some do accept blank usernames and/or passwords, depending on the model.

Log into your router first turn your SSID broadcast off then

Kaspersky is the best, it works excellent for me
if u r using verizon than u can use verizon internet security suite.

or if u want all of them individually than go to www.heartodark.com and than look out over there if u can find the thing u want.

and about ur computer being late there may be some registry problems so u can download many optimizers for free in that website.

anti-virus go with kaspersky.although youll have to fork over some money to get it as theyre commercial versions. as for spyware,i only know of spybot search and destroy along with adaware should be good enough. as for firewall comodo firewall works the strongest then any other firewall and is freeware.

Then at the top of the page is "Content was blocked becausde it was not signed by a valid security certificate". I am new to computers and have no idea what they are talking about. Thanks for help.

What is "a valid security certificate"? More info?hp

Web-pages (usually with address starting with https) may have a mechanism to certify that they are real and hosted by a real entity. (For example without such certificate you may implement a web-page similar to an e-bank, and obtain user names and passwords. But if the users check the certificate entering the site of the bank, they can see, whether it is real or not.)

You may search in Iternet Option / Advanced to override this setting.

Embarq Security?

Here is my problem. I have three supposed spyware and viruses on my computer that are going to destroy my system. I have McAffee security right now and it seems that it is not doing the job. I have embarq internet now, that offers virus/spam/adware/spyware protection. Will embarq security get rid of my problem? Or do I have to buy software for it?

Back up your hard drive to disc, then format the hard drive or replace it. I recommend replacing since the hard drive can never be wiped completely

What computer career is best for me?

ok I am having trouble figuring out what computer field is best for me? Here's what i'd like to do:

- computer repair (hardware repair, replacement, installation, and software install/useage, ect) similar to that of a technical support specialist/computer repair specialist

- networking

- problem solving/diagnostic work (cleaning out viruses, finding out why something isn't working, ect.)

- security (making sure systems are secure, ect)

Personally I like repairing computers and the problem solving...but i didn't like the sound of a computer repair specialist or comp. technician due to the low salary compared to other computer careers. I wasn't sure if an IT specialist would exactly cover the majority of this.

Plz help me!! What computer career would be good for me!

What computer career is best for me?internet security 2006

IT specialist maybe would be good. Large companies have labs and need lab managers who do all the work you describe (think about managing 1000 computers :)) I know my company pays Lab Managers pretty well since labs are vital to the productivity of the staff.

Symantec's norton internet security 2007 problem?

This morning I was going to used the computer for about 5 minutes, but NIS 2007 had a problem. Have been on 6 hours. I followed instructions but had to ring symantec, the programe has been deleted twice today, one of them did it on my computer. The only thing not working is Symantec's norton internet security 2007, they cannot cure the problem, but want me to pay them to remove tracking cookies which cannot be the problem.

If Norton internet security cannot cope with tracking cookies then it is useless.

They can't help, can you?

Us AD-ADAWARE by Lavasoft (it is FREE for the Basic version). Microsofts Windows DEFENDER (FREE from the Microsoft Download page) and AVG as a VIRUS CHecker (FREE). I have used Norton Products for years and have Norton 2007 Internet Security on now, I cannot wait for November when my Subscription runs out as the product I have mentioned "Nasties" on my computer that Norton Misses. On the plus side Norton usually fins "LOW" Graded items such as Tracking Cookies. I would check your settings and upgrades before you do any more.

Norton sucks. Get a different antivirus program.
Norton products ( or should i say symantec are useless - believe me i have inside information). There are plenty of freeware products that are much better and don't cost a thing.

Which field will offer more job security in the long term-computers/IT or electronics?-SUNNY MAHENDRA?internet

End user electronics repair is a dim market considering the price of electronic devices. Although service oriented electronics such as Home Automation, Fire Alarm, and Video Surveillance can be lucrative. And of course if you've attained an engineering degree, you could find yourself on the cutting edge of technology. Networking and IT fields are what I'd consider to have the best paying technical positions overall, and requires a studious mind to maintain performance and certifications.

Processes on my computer?

There are 36 running and CPU usage is between 30% and 50%. I know the computer is free of viruses or spyware. How can I clean up all this extra stuff and make my computer run a little faster? I do have Norton Internet Security and Windows Defender on it.

Thanks,

B

Processes on my computer?ktm

To answer that question, you need to be more specific about you computer. For example:

How much RAM does you system have?

Which operating system are you running?

Which type of settings is you computer set on?

But without that all I can say is to defragment you drive. You can do this by in Vista by: searching defragment on you start bar. In windows XP you go to Start%26gt;System tools%26gt;Defragment. Defragment takes from a few minutes to a several hours depending on your level of fragmentation.

Processes on my computer?nortan

In Task Manager's Processes tab, click twice on CPU to order processes, with highest usage at the top.

Then go to Start-%26gt;Run. Type in msconfig and hit Enter or click OK.

This will open the System Configuration Utility. Click on the Startup tab. This will show you most processes that are set to start when Windows does. This gives you a little more info.

You can then uncheck items you may not want running.

Good internet security suite or antivirus?

I'm not going to ask for the "best" because I'm sure everyone has their own opinions on what they use or what not. I bought Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 7.x a while ago, and then it told me my key was on the blacklisted (I didn't even know what it meant for a while and it kept coming up). I asked for my money back and never got a response. I wasn't surprised.

However I was unhappy since it was a very good suite to use. And now since I don't have it, I'm not sure what to get. What I wanted to know is what people recommend. But here's the thing.. my computer only has 512MB ram as of now and Zonealarm's Internet Security Suite tends to be very bloated and slow on my computer.

I prefer a good antivirus/firewall/spyware/adware removal program that uses very low RAM like Kaspersky does and works well. Does anyone have any recommendations? :)

Good internet security suite or antivirus?live update

Aside from Kaspersky, the commercial security suite I've tested that approaches my goals is F-Secure. I've been testing several internet security suites over the last month, and most of them provide comparable levels of antivirus protection (good) and antispyware protection (fair), but with firewalls that are comparable in performance to the Windows XP SP2 Firewall (needing improvement.) The only exceptions in firewall performance were Kaspersky and F-Secure. Everyone else so far - BitDefender, McAfee, Norton (360 and ISS), Panda and Trend Micro - didn't pass the outbound firewall testing I conducted.

Can someone help me in setting up a security seal on my Yahoo! login page?

Have been trying to set up a seal to aid security and stop phising. On trying to implement this, my computer seems to freeze on the "other computer" section, not allowing me to do anything else. I dont use any other computer for my Yahoo! login and there is only one computer at home. Anyone got any advise or step by step instructions on how to get through this. Cheers for the advise in advance.

What is a good replacement for Norton Internet Security?

There are a number of very good tools, many of which are free, that may suit your needs. McAfee has already been mentioned and I agree, it is an excellent tool. You may also want to check in to ZoneAlarm. I used it for years and really liked it. It was, in my opinion, worth the extra money to get the pro version. Kerio, Agnitum Outpost, Sygate, R-Firewall, and Ghostwall are also quite good. I would recommend trying ZoneAlarm first and see if it suits your needs. If not, try one of the other choices listed above.

Why don't Indian computer consultants have to go through background checks?

I had to have my urine tested, my neighbers interviewed and basicaly my entire life probed in order to get this job yet I sit next to a bunch of guys fresh off the boat from Indian and other third world nations whos only qualifications seem to be that they will work cheap and who have never been asked even a single security question. These guys have the same level of computer access as I have! I see this crap over and over, consulting job after consulting job! What gives?

Why don't Indian computer consultants have to go through background checks?microsoft office

A lot of companies have contracts with companies based in India. They send their contract people over to work on a work visa for limited time period, basically it is cheap labor, no lay offs, no health care costs are proved by the US company as they are not employed by them so they are saving themselves money. Is it fair? No. But, many companies do it now.

Why don't Indian computer consultants have to go through background checks?norton antivirus

Do you work for Micro$oft?
They do go through a background check in India. There is a background security check organization in India made by NASSCOM (which provides cheap Labor to US and other European Nations) that does this job. They have to get an E-Card which has been accepted by most of Software Companies in India. Apart form what you have gone through they also have to bear the high cost of security clearance.
i think they do it
i'm pretty sure they're subject to "probing" as well

they just cannot do it as thoroughly as they did you now, can they? they cannot go to india and find their neighbor and get their whole life story

Need computer virus help PLEASE!!!!?

I think I have a virus on my computer. I have windows xp and the AOL safety and security virus protection. I believe that I have a virus somehow, my screen scrambles at times and has been acting up on me.

HOW DO I GET RID OF IT???????

there are a lot of free scans out there.

My favorite is Hijack this!

It will tell you what's running on your computer.

Keep in mind - just because your computer is 'acting up' doesn't mean you have a virus.

You might have a hardware problem that's just starting. --- You need to be careful before you delete things that are running (they might be needed)

If you run a scan and you're unsure about the file(s) that are found in your system - you can email me and I can help you look into it to see if it is something you need.

Social security #'s?

I tried to track down my deceased mother's social security number for family tree information. The number did not come up.I am wondering if my step father(who is now deceased too),reported her to social security. On her death certificate notice was her social security number, but when we tried to list it on the computer to get information regarding her parents, and other information, the system said no such social securty number. What can I do?

Well, first, that's kind of creepy. You should probably see if you typed it in correctly. If that doesn't work, you should tell the government. Email, letter, something. That shouldn't happen.

Contact your nearest Social Security Office or call them at 800-772-1213 and ask them. I believe that once a person is deceased, the number is no longer valid and cannot be used for any purpose. But check with them to be sure.

Don't know about the second one but this will solve the first one.

iPod touch requires two important pieces of software to operate properly on Windows. First, the driver must be installed; for iPod touch the driver is USBAAPL.SYS. Second, Apple Mobile Device Support must be installed as a Windows Service. If these are not installed, see the Reinstall iTunes section below.

Verify that the driver is installed by connecting iPod touch to the computer and following these steps:

On the Start menu, click Run.

Here's one option. Go to this page

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/ya...

and select the most applicable option for your situation.

Another is to blind-copy "abuse@yahoo.com", "root@yahoo.com", "administrator@yahoo.com", "security@yahoo.com" ...

good luck. Sounds like something that should definitely be reported to Yahoo security folks. Wish I knew their address. :-)
Look at the header information. You will want to look below the x-originating-ip for the " received... " IP address. You will want to WHOIS this IP address and then forward the email WITH the header information to the abuse department of that ISP as well as to the federal trade commission spam@uce.gov and perhaps to your own ISP and other authorities.

I would also suggest you print out a copy of the email with the full header information so that you will have a record of the threat.

If you know who the user is you can file a TRO (temporary restraining order) with your local court and take that to your local police department for them to keep on file should the abuse continue.

Good Luck

Extra windows xp login security?

hi, im wondering if anyone knows of a powerful program that can add security to the windows xp login. sort of like encryption. instead of windows xp's regular login password thingy before it loads windows, i want one that is alot more powerful and more secure. because there are program such as Microsoft Key Enterprise that can just reset the windows password and with a program that adds extra security, they still wont be able to get into my computer, if anyone knows of a program then please tell me, price does not matter if i have to buy it.

I see 2 possibilities

1) Use TrueCrypt http://www.truecrypt.org to encrypt your file systems. That way you have to specify a different password/phrase to access anything on your disk.

2) I believe a TPM enhanced computer will allow you to specify a bios password that must be used to use the computer. Look at: https://www.trustedcomputinggroup.org/fa...
