Why don't Indian computer consultants have to go through background checks?

I had to have my urine tested, my neighbers interviewed and basicaly my entire life probed in order to get this job yet I sit next to a bunch of guys fresh off the boat from Indian and other third world nations whos only qualifications seem to be that they will work cheap and who have never been asked even a single security question. These guys have the same level of computer access as I have! I see this crap over and over, consulting job after consulting job! What gives?

A lot of companies have contracts with companies based in India. They send their contract people over to work on a work visa for limited time period, basically it is cheap labor, no lay offs, no health care costs are proved by the US company as they are not employed by them so they are saving themselves money. Is it fair? No. But, many companies do it now.

Do you work for Micro$oft?
They do go through a background check in India. There is a background security check organization in India made by NASSCOM (which provides cheap Labor to US and other European Nations) that does this job. They have to get an E-Card which has been accepted by most of Software Companies in India. Apart form what you have gone through they also have to bear the high cost of security clearance.
i think they do it
i'm pretty sure they're subject to "probing" as well

they just cannot do it as thoroughly as they did you now, can they? they cannot go to india and find their neighbor and get their whole life story
