Does Norton Anti Virus cause your computer to run slower?

Im finding that my computer is running slower ever since I installed Norton Internet Security 2007. Could this be the reason for it taking longer for pages to load? If so what can I do? I need a good Anti virus to protect my computer.

Yes, by as much as 20%.

Un-install Norton and get AVG at:

Yes it does makes other applications slower.

This is because Norton Antivirus hogs ur available physical memory as much as 70-80MB while being idle, and compounded if u get it actively scans your drive.
well.. maybe.. and no... I have the same anti-virus and my computer still the same... where you have you computer have enough space to breath? all the fan on you computer are working? your processor is not overhearing? when was the last time you clean you computer inside? you sure that you computer is slower now when you put the anti-virus and not before? when was the last time you clean,(delete files that you not need) or degrament you computer...?

good luck
norton can slow you down especially if your system doesnt have that much ram. it uses allot of system resources compared to other antivirus software like AVG. set it to scan at night time or early morning when you wont be using it its really slow when your scanning. its a safe bet to switch to avg or get more ram i think a gig nowdays is madatory. lots of pcs come with 512 to me that just dont cut it.
Antivirus apps can have a severe impact on performance. You can turn off the "continuous protection" feature, and just schedule periodic scans. You'll lose some degree of protection that way, but gain some performance.
Just add more RAM and you should be back at the right speed.
