Computer troubles!?

I've a Compaq computer with Windows xp. A couple of wks ago, i took it in to be cleaned, extra memory and because Norton Security had finished they down loaded it with an AVG security with my permission. I went to down load some music from a legal paying site which i've had no problem before and Windows media keep saying there is an error. My son bought 2 new PC games, which he can't play as the computer won't accept it. Do you think it's the new AVG security that has affected it. What can i do, HELP!

Be sure you only have ONE AntiVirus install on your system, and not the remnants of Norton.

AVG should be fine by itself, so either Norton hasn't completely removed, or there may be a firewall conflict.

Windows Firewall may have started again after Norton was removed, and AVG has a firewall as well, so goto control panel %26gt; security center and check to see if your anti virus and firewall alerts are ok, or if it says anything about 2 firewalls.

Follow the questions here:

After that you should be able to download the correct uninstaller for your Norton product.

Hope this helps.

What won't Windows "accept" about the games? What is the exact error given by Windows Media Player?
i don't think it's avg. i use it with no problems. chack the system requirements on the boxes the games are in and make sure the computer at least matches (preferably exceed) are the games recent releases? if so the comp may not be able to run the graphics. as for media player, make sure you have the latest version installed go to start/all programs/windows update. if you still get no joy try a different player - google "media player" and pick one (there are loads) i really don't think it's the avg, what could have happened is that norton deleted a file when it was uninstalled (i wouldn't recommend norton to anyone it's crap!!)
Just in passing, a professional techie at Panda once told me before I installed Panda on my computer I should run Norton Unininstaller on it to make absolutely certain I got all of the old Norton stuff off it. He went on to say the only way you can be absolutely sure all of your old Norton is gone is to find, download and run the Norton Uninstaller.
go back to the store and tell the people and tell have to help you then
AVG is a free download. Try uninstalling to see if it'll work then.
Are you in England? Did you take it within 10 Miles of a PC World store? If so that could be a major problem.
