I recently installed NIS 2008, and lo and behold, the Windows Security Center reports that no firewall or antivirus is running on the computer. It's more of an aesthetic problem than a functionality one, but I would like to have it fixed. I've tried deleting the repository and waiting for it to be rebuilt, but that didn't work.
I won't have access to the CD for about two weeks, so I will be unable to reinstall until then. If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix the Windows Security Center so that it recognizes NIS2008, I would be extremely grateful.
Norton Internet Security 2008 and Vista's Security Center?antispyware
The Microsoft support site has no items documenting this issue, though the forums do indicate several instances where the WSC does not report a firewall or antivirus program working (including, ironically, Live OneCare) but generally, when there is the possibility of a defective component, you should run System File Checker to see if it can repair the component.

Norton Internet Security 2008 and Vista's Security Center?best antivirus software
For starters, I really recommend you get rid of Norton. Not only is it a complete resource hog, it aint very good at killing infections either.
You can get either AVG or Avast as an replacement antivirus.
If you wish to keep it, then try this:
Open Norton Protection Center.
Click 'OPTIONS'
Uncheck: "Show messages from Windows Security Center."
See if that does it.
