Why does my computer do what seems like 'system restore' without notice everytime I turn o

Everytime I turn off my computer and turn it on again it seems to system restore to a "past state" which was 2 years ago and move all the files from my "present state" computer to the G drive on the computer and tells me they aren't installed and it doesn't recognize me as a user of those files. My computer only starts up in the "present state" when I have the Norton Internet Security 2007 CD in my DVD ROM drive. Why is this happening?

Does the dialog box come up to restore the computer or does it just atomatically do it? If in that case then you need to go to start accessories and then system tools and find system restore if you use xp then it should say "restore my computer to an earlier time and below that it should say Create a system checkpoint make sure the first one is checked.

It may be a virus or it may just be Window Update. Who know without knowing what was going on before you shut it down.
